Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame: Jackson, Mississippi

Hall of Fame

A joint venture project with Commarts of Jackson Mississippi.

From ancient stickball competition to the Olympic games, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is a showcase of the athletic achievements of the state’s sports heroes. Reminiscent of a stadium entrance, the exhibit facade is visible to the exterior through a glass wall. The lower level of the exhibit space includes a theatre, a locker room, and a dugout through which visitors enter the two-storied arena. The major feature of the arena is an imposing wall of memories, standing 20 feet tall, spanning 60 feet in length, and housing artifacts collected from Hall of Fame honorees. Designated spaces on the arena floor highlight various sports. Adjacent rooms honor the state’s collegiate champions, Olympians, and major league baseball. Special media features include touch - screen multimedia kiosks, a synchronized three - screen video production and interactive participatory games. The upper deck includes stadium seating overlooking the arena floor and a suspended video scoreboard, an area for temporary exhibits, and a tribute to Mississippi baseball great Dizzy Dean.

Other space in the 23,000 sq. ft. structure houses offices, restrooms, and meeting space.

The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum originally left space for additional exhibits to be added. The Sports Medicine Exhibit was added to explain to the visitor the importance and accomplishments of medicine in sports. With the aid of hands - on low - tech and high - tech visual and tactile experience exhibits the visitor has the opportunity to learn about orthroscropic surgery and many other sports related medical fields.
