Entry Into Memorial

The Mississippi Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a tribute to those Mississippians who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the beliefs and freedoms of all Americans. The purpose of the memorial is to teach the lessons of war as seen through the eyes of individual Mississippians. Each name and face has a story to tell.

A granite pedestal at the entrance is inscribed with a quote from a Vietnam soldier who stated his conviction to the task which he was given.

“I am fighting to protect and maintain what I believe in and I want to live in a democratic society. If I am killed while carrying out this mission I want no one to cry or mourn for me. I want people to hold their heads up high and be proud of me for the job I did.”
