Holt Collier Visitor and Interpretive Center: Sharkey County, Mississippi

This 2000 square foot exhibit profiles the history and cultural influences associated with this area of the Mississippi Delta. 


Holt Collier was a famous hunter, trapper, and guide for President Theodore Roosevelt on a bear hunt in 1902 which led to the birth of the “Teddy Bear”. The Steele’s Bayou Campaign of the Civil War is told within the exhibits. The history of the Indian mounds in the region. The cultural influences in writing and music as well as the history of the Mississippi Delta cotton farming.
